Rolex Day-Date 1803 Stunning Dark Grey Black Buckley Dial with Papers / Serviced

A wonderful 1971 Rolex 1803 is for sale. It features the breathtaking and extremely rare dark gray Buckley dial, named after the American dealer and collector John Buckley. The dark gray harmonizes perfectly with the yellow gold case and bracelet, a theme that is echoed in the Roman numerals and minute track. A dial in this condition is an absolute rarity, and the hands and dial still feature the original tritium luminescent material. On top of that, the watch comes with its original papers.

Condition

The watch’s case is in excellent condition and has been polished only slightly; the hallmarks on the back are fully intact, and the lugs are thick and sharp. The fluted bezel is very sharp and has been polished only slightly. The crown is sharp-edged and in good condition. As already mentioned, the highlights are the dial and the hands, which are in breathtaking condition; only the lume plots are peeling off slightly, which is unfortunately usually the case. The reference engraving and serial number are completely intact. The watch strap has some stretch—unfortunately, this is a common issue with older 1803 straps, and it’s very difficult to find a good one. The strap has been polished, and the crown on the clasp has also been polished quite heavily. The watch has a length of 18.5 cm, so it should fit comfortably on an 18 cm wrist. Functionally, however, the strap works perfectly and is very comfortable to wear. The watch comes with the original papers and has been recently serviced. Additionally, you’ll receive our travelcase and an invoice.
